PROGRAM

A fantastic career deserved a grand finish, where charity was not just an afterthought but a leitmotif. In the company of Goran’s companions throughout his career journey, from the blacktops of Ljubljana to the All-Star Game and the NBA Finals, the action began at a charity event on Friday, 23 August, and concluded at a basketball spectacle on Saturday, 24 August 2024.

About the event:

The list of Dragić’s accomplishments was endless, especially considering the charitable work he did through his foundation. But now, it was time for the final game of his career. One last rebound, one last assist, one last bucket. A final tribute to the golden captain as he crossed the finish line of a magnificent basketball career—a career in which he gave and continued to give so much to Slovenian, European, and global sports.

The event marking the end of a glorious career did not fall short of the level of excellence with which Goran impressed us over the last decades. That’s why the organizers promised that I Feel Slovenia Night of the Dragon would be an unforgettable spectacle full of basketball’s biggest names, unexpected surprises, unprecedented innovations, and fun, upbeat, charitable, and imaginative activities.

NIGHT OF THE DRAGON BUSINESS TALK

Elite sports and high-level business were much more similar than they appeared at first glance – they shared many common points. Both fields required passion, dedication, and a constant search for inspiration and innovation. In this spirit, the business-sports-social event Night of the Dragon Business Talk was held at the Austria Trend Hotel on Friday, August 23, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.

CHARITY
GALA DINNER

Friday, August 23rd, 2024

The event began with warm-ups; Gogi started his sports journey with football, and the participants of Goran Dragić’s farewell game commenced this final act of their host’s career dressed in suits and ties.

On Friday, August 23, the day before Goran’s basketball friends—who are stars of both Slovenian and international basketball—took to the court in front of the Stožice stands, they stretched their legs on the red carpet. As befits a ceremonial occasion marking the farewell of one of the greatest sports icons from the game under the hoop, the event started with a festive atmosphere.

In Ljubljana, at the venue where Goran’s final basketball performance would take place the following day, a charity gala event occurred the night before the farewell match. Amid a rich entertainment program, two highlights stood out: the selection of players for the teams and the charity auction.

Following the model of the NBA, where Gogi spent the majority of his illustrious career, the players for the teams competing on Saturday, August 24, were drafted on Friday. The selection was not easy, as Dragić’s farewell game, organized by Spontanzo under the leadership of Matej Avanz, and the Goran Dragić Foundation, attracted numerous elite active and retired basketball players, coaches, and basketball personnel who had shaped Gogi’s career. I FEEL SLOVENIA NIGHT OF THE DRAGON
FAREWELL GAME

Saturday, August 24th, 2024

Games are won in the second half, championships are secured in the finals, and the event marking the end of Dragić’s basketball career reached its pinnacle precisely where Gogi feels most at home: on the basketball court.

On Saturday, August 24, a spectacular sports and entertainment event unfolded at the Stožice Arena in Ljubljana—an experience that Slovenia had never witnessed before. In a star-studded showdown characterized by a friendly atmosphere, numerous basketball masters showcased their skills in honor of Goran, many of whom had walked part of the journey with him from Ilirija to the Milwaukee Bucks.

The evening-long event not only featured basketball magic on the court, with Goran’s basketball friends taking center stage, but also offered plenty of entertainment and innovative highlights. The positive energy in the arena stemmed from the awareness that the event had a charitable purpose. Proceeds will be allocated to the program of the Olympic Committee of Slovenia and the Friends of Youth Association Moste-Polje’s “Botrstvo v športu,” as well as to the Goran Dragić Foundation.
